The North Hornell Elementary School is seeking an exceptional educator to serve in the dual role of Literacy Coach/Librarian for students in Prekindergarten (3-year-old program) through Grade 1. This position is designed to strengthen early literacy instruction while fostering a love of reading and learning for our youngest students.
The Literacy Coach/Librarian will provide instructional leadership, job-embedded coaching, and professional support to teachers while also managing a dynamic elementary library program that promotes literacy, inquiry, and lifelong learning.
The successful candidate must possess a thorough understanding of foundational literacy development, including oral language, phonological and phonemic awareness, phonics, vocabulary, fluency, reading comprehension, writing development, and early assessment practices. The individual must demonstrate expertise in implementing and supporting evidence-based literacy curricula and interventions and have the ability to coach educators through collaborative planning, classroom modeling, observation, and reflective feedback.
In addition to literacy coaching responsibilities, the candidate will develop and maintain an engaging elementary library program that cultivates students' curiosity, appreciation for literature, digital literacy, and responsible use of information resources. The librarian component of the position includes planning developmentally appropriate library instruction, curating high-quality collections that support classroom learning, and promoting family engagement in reading.
